help! Where is the windows logon picture located?

L

Lu

Hi all,

I originally had my Windows XP logon picture and the desktop
background picture to be the same.

But now accidentally I changed the desktop background picture to the
Windows XP default one.

I want to find it back. It's really important to me.

Fortunately I found that the windows logon picture is still there (the
screen showed when I type in my username and password).

I just have to find the location of that logon picture and then make
it to the desktop background picture again.

Could anybody please help me?

Best,

Thanks a lot!

Hi,
Have you tied going back to display>properties>desktop background and
checking if it is still there? Sometimes the system changes the name but
keeps the image. Do you no longer have the image on your computer? If you
deleted it by mistake you can retrieve it with a file retriever.

Go to control panel---users and click to change account---select your
account then select to change picture.
When picture is shown take note of its name. Example: Chess.bmp. Then do a
search for chess.bmp.

Lu,
If you are referring to the picture that briefly appears before the
'Welcome' screen, then you can alter what picture will be displayed by
changing the following registry value :

"HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop"

"Wallpaper"=

On the other hand, if you are talking about the tiny picture that
appears with your user name on the 'Welcome' screen, then you can find
all the available pictures in the following folder :

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User
Account Pictures\Default Pictures"

....and your currently defined image is in the folder just above it :

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\User
Account Pictures"

....named with your username .bmp

Hope this covers what you were asking about...
