Help uninstalling printer

Jim

My friend physically removed his old Epson printer and then installed the
driver for a new HP. When prompted, he attached the HP and the printer
seems to work properly.

When he opens the Control panel to view the printers etc., he is unable to
remove the Epson - it keeps saying its deleting but never finishes.
Apparently he is unable to set the new HP as the default printer.

Appreciate any suggestions.

He was in too big a hurry to install the HP printer and failed to uninstall
the driver for the Epson printer first. He needs to delete the Epson printer
driver. There are some HP printer models that have a driver preinstalled
with Windows XP, while most of the HP printers require the driver to be
installed with the USB connector disconnected from the printer. Then when
you connect the printer via USB connector to the Windows XP machine the
correct driver will be automatically recognized. He needs to check with the
HP website for that particular printer model, such as "Deskjet 000x" and see
if there is a driver needed for installation or if the driver is actually
preinstalled in Windows XP.
