HELP:system tray icons inconsistent incl. volume icon

windows xp home edition with all updates.
There is only one user defined for my machine.

If I boot or reboot the machine, my system tray icons are incorrect.
Specifically, the volume icon is missing and there is an icon showing
for McAfee Firewall which has never been there before.

If I log off and then back on, my systray icons are correct.
Specifically, the volume icon is back and the McAfee Firewall icon is gone.

I recently uninstalled windows messaging and outlook express.

any suggestions?

Ok, disregard any mention of the McAfee Firewall icon. Now it is simply
the volume icon that is missing. - dave
