Help Request on New Window Opening Position

K

Can anybody tell me if there is a way in XP to force new windows to
open in the same position? Currently, if I have a Word doc open (or
IE, or Firefox, et al) and I open a new window (either by selecting
"New Window" from the menu or clicking a file of that type) the new
window opens at the same size but the position is shifted to the right.
This is annoying me to no end (character flaw?) because I have my
desktop arranged specifically to allow areas for other programs (chat,
news ticker) that I do not want overlapped. I routinely have multiple
copies of programs open and would like to simply switch between them
using the taskbar -- no need for cascaded windows.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

This cannot be changed except for that you enlarge the windows to
almost full-screen size with the mouse.
