Unable to open new window

Hello!

I routinely have several windows and programs open thought out the day and
what I have discovered is that after a while I have to many windows open and
I can't open anymore.

What happens after I reach this state is that the right click context won't
open, clicking ctrl alt del does nothing and trying to open any program or
window like IE or notepad does nothing. To fix the problem I have to close a
window or two.

Sometimes I might have as few a 6 window/programs open at the time when this
happens. These are the programs I usually have open throughout the day
Outlook, FrontPage, several Internet Explorer windows and notepad. Sometimes
I will open PhotoShop and when I am having the issue the menu windows in
PhotoShop won't load.

I am running XP SP2 with 2 GB of ram. The computer never slows down, the
windows just stop opening. What can I do to fix the problem?

If I have enough windows open, you get the following scenario: A new
programs seems not to be able to open at all or completely. I.e. they get
"some" window open, some not. I saw it with outlook express, the program
opened, but the menu was not here. Or with the MMC (Event Viewer) the MMC
opened but said it "cannot open an empty window".

Anybody an idea what causes this problem?

Thanks Hans

Windows has limits on certain system parameters. Things like GDI
Objects and similar. These are things that don't necessarily depend
on physical RAM. You probably need to use a modified TaskMgr
setup to monitor the usage of these items.Internet Explorer might be
a major contributor especially if you use multiple Tabs within each
IE session.
