I have a laptop running XP Pro. After I failed to manualy turn off the powersave mode on the system, and left it idle. The HDD was powered off, when I tried to wake the system a serious error occured. I am getting the following error message.

lsass.exe - System Error
An I/O operation intiated by the Registry failed unrecoverbly. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry.

The machine has some critical files on it so a reformat is out of the option. Is there anything I can do to fix this???

Thank you...

My computer locks up and won't boot. What do I do?
