First off. im running XP PRO on SP2

Ok here is the deal.
I was tryinng to get Movie maker to work with my AVI files so i was do
wnloading drivers and programs and stuff and its been nothing but problems
scince.

99% of the time i log into my computer ( im not using it right now )
everything seems to load up fine up to the part where it is ( starting up
windows ) the bifg blue screen. After that screen is on usually windows
Desktop will start up but on my computer the Background will come up but no
bar at bottom no icons nothing. I see the mouse moving around but there is
nothing to click on. I press control alt delete and the ( windows Task
managet ) comes up and i can go to ( shut down ) and restart my computer.
after i do that somthing that says System.exe is shutting down ( end task )
and I end task. other then that it iwll just sit there with my background up

I am thinking that it has somthing to do with me accidently deleting
Drivers or somthing.

I am able to load up in (Safemode) Just fine.

Sometimes I can get into windows if i let it start up but its very rare it
ususally just sits at the Background screen.

Now can i fix this problem by simply downloading SP 2 on my old computer (
one im using now ) butn it to a CD and install it on broken computer ( in
safe mode ) Or is there other stuff i should try first. Please help ill try
to figure it out int he meen time

( and i tried use last working settings ) didint work.

And for some reason my System restore is broken and when i try to restore it
says ( i cant restore to that point )

thank you very much for any help you can give me.

You could try a Repair Install :-

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

Ok here Is what i did and seems to be working ok.

I uninstalled DIVX drivers and X-Vid Drivers. then i went into MSCONFIG and
unclicked on all the DIVX, X-VID, precelleus, and other Drivers i did not
reconize came from Windows. i also went into services and unclicked some
sketchy looking things. then went to start up did same tihng. did a restart
and RUn on last good settings at the F8 part and it has survived 3 reboots in
a row now.

Think i should still try the repair or if it works dont mess with it.

If it aint broke don't fix it, just keep in mind that the repair option
is available if needed.
