Start menu wont close

It started this morning..booted up the computer as normal and now the start
menu opens up and I cant close it. Takes up a 3rd of my screen. Tried to
access the controls through the Conrtol panel but nothing happens when I
click on "taskbar and start menu". Also when I close all windows and click on
my main background, my MSN messenger window disappears! I recently upgraded
to the new IE7 and I was wondering if this is the problem. I've tried system
restoring and nothing happens...start menu is still there! Help...

Thanks for the suggestion and did what you suggested, but its still there!!
