My computer is not working: Please select boot device

System (i put together): Pentium processor, intel motherboard, 2gb of
ram, ati radeon video card, with usb keyboard and mouse

History: A couple of days ago I got a message that kept popping up
(while browsing the internet in firefox), something about setting my
keyboard to browse mode or mouse mode. I didn't really pay attention
(unfortunately - I know I'm a dumb ass) and I just hit the button
'check to not show this again', and hit ok or no. I tried both until
it stopped. So a short while after my keyboard would stop working (I
could no longer do any keyboard commands). So then I would reboot my
computer and it worked for a while, and then the same thing happend...
no keyboard functionality, had to reboot.

The problem: So now if I reboot my computer with my keyboard plugged in
I get a simple screen that says (even before anything happens really: I
turn on the box and this screen shows up):

Please select boot device
Removable Dev.
Hard Drive
ATAPI CD-ROM

Use arrow keys to change selection
Use ENTER to select and save
Use ESC to Exit without save.

Of course, the keyboard doesn't work so I cannot choose anything. The
kicker is that if I unplug my keyboard, the box will boot successfully
and go straight to the windows logo and login (of course I cannot
loggin because my keyboard is not plugged in and if I plug it in at
this point it will not work either).

Anybody see this before? Does this sound like a hardware issue or a
virus? I imagine if it was a virus then I could at least get to the
bios and try to boot in safe mode.. but i'm not sure. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

FYI: So the keyboard (Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000) was
the issue. I unplugged it and everything went smoothly. It must have
been sending some type of command (like a key was stuck) to the pc. I
replaced it with another and it worked well.
