OT: USB keyboards and startup menus

I just got my first USB keyboard, a Verbatim Speaker Keyboard (very pleased
with its performance) and I can't boot into safe mode with it. I'm wondering
if this is normal for USB keyboards or peculier to this one.

When I boot the machine (XP), the Numlock comes on (good) and if pressing F8
brings up the menu (also good). But I can't scroll the menu. The arrow
buttons have no effect at all. Once it times out, Windows starts normally.
No software with it and the directions are in total, "Plug keyboard into USB
Port".

Go into BIOS (if you can. If not, temporarily plug in your old keyboard) and
go to the USB options section. Be sure that Legacy USB Devices is enabled.
Then you should be able pick your boot-up options.

I have the same problem and my "Legacy" setting is on. Still no go
with the BIOS or "boot menu" when I use my USB based keyboard on my
DG31PR motherboard. (BTW: I have the latest BIOS installed.)

All I can say is what worked for me when I couldn't get into BIOS and/or
navigate the XP boot menu. Once I set legacy devices to enable (not 'auto'),
I was able to use my Saitek USB keyboard at all times.

Are you by any chance using the arrow keys on the NumLock keypad? They
won't work when NumLock is on. Use the inverted-t arrow keys to the left
of the NumLock keypad.

If no joy, contact Verbatim.
