Help on startup Wallpaper

M

Michael Raphael

When I log on everything starts and initially the wallpaper is a full screen picture of my grandson. After a very few seconds, that picture disappears, and the wallpaper (desktop background) turns blue for a couple of seconds, and then turns to white.

Everything else seems to be working ok.

Any suggestions for help getting my grandson back.

Thanks,

Mike

Change the resolution of the picture/wallpaper/your grandson to a
smaller size. Use a graphics application and change it there to
about 100 KB or so and try again. Most of Microsofts wallpapers are
under 100 KB. Keep the original picture and use a copy for changing
sizes in case of a screw-up. The other alternative is to change your
screen resolution here: Rightclick open area of screen and click
Properties>Settings tab>Desktop Resolution>slide one click to the right.
Click Apply and OK, repeat click to the right if possible.

See if this helps. Right-click an empty place on your desktop. Then click
Properties. Now click the Web tab. On this tab, remove the check from
"View my Active Desktop as a web page".

Oops! That response was for Win98. No such setting on XP.

I'm not sure I understand when you say to use a 'graphics application'..... would you explain a little.

I tried switching to one of the Microsoft pre-packaged pictures and still get the white screen.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Did you have any malware of the Smitfraud variety that you removed? See
this link for Smitfraud/Spyaxe/Spyfalcon etc. removal steps:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Smitfraud_Trojan

Is the computer otherwise virus/malware-free? Be sure:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If you know the computer is completely clean, try:

Go to the Display applet in Control Panel and look on the Desktop tab.
Click on Customize Desktop, and then click on the Web tab. You will see
that there are checkmarks next to "My Current Home Page" and probably
"Lock Desktop Items". Uncheck these. Apply/OK out.

If you need further help, then post back with details of your computer
and what you've already done to troubleshoot, as well as its
virus/malware status and what you used to determine it. If you are
unsure what to include in your post, go to this link for help with
that: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

Thanks Malke, for all the information and tips.

I ran all the checks and the good news is that my laptop is clean.

When I went to the 'desktop' on the control panel, the 'desktop uninstall' was checked. I unchecked that and selected another picture and it works.

Thanks,
