Desktop Wallpaper doesn't stay showing after login

WIndows XP Profession, 64bit, SP2.


Initially, the wallpaper came with a default setting, and it would stay up
every time.

Since, I had pointed it to a wallpaper of my choosing, and it would show
after selecting it and applying it.

When I restart the system, then login in, it at first shows the wall paper,
but within 5 seconds time, it disappears and just goes back to the blank
blue background. When I go to shut down or restart the system, it at some
point of time during the shut down process show the wallpaper once again for
a short period of time prior to the system actually turning off (and turning
back on if restarting).

I have attempted numerous things but to no available luck.

Is the wallpaper of your choosing your own creation or one of the
built in wallpapers?

Are you able to change to one of the built in wallpapers and make it
stick after restarting?

I do not have this problem either way, but something to try is:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open: box, type: gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
3. Check the policy settings in the User Configuration
\Administrative Templates\Desktop\Active Desktop folder.
4. Right-click Enable Active Desktop, and then click Properties.
5. Click Enabled, and then click OK.

Change the wallpaper and try again. Include a reboot in your testing.


See what that does for you and please report back.
 
Even after rebooting with my custom made bmp file, even though it shows as
changed within the settings, it still doesn't apply regardless if I click on
"Apply" or not prior to clicking on "OK" on the Display settings.

As for the group policies that you mentioned about, the only thing I have
showing under Administrative Templates is "Windows Components" with sub
folders under that.

Okay, after doing a lookup for how to add ADM files, and got instructions
for that, was able to get to the Desktop setting, but rather than enabling
the ActiveDesktop as you stated (I noticed in the documentation that
property would be ignored if the control panel is set to Classic Shell, and
I don't care for the category view), I ended up setting the policy of
"Active Desktop Wallpaper". That seems to have worked.

That's good it is working.

I run Classic view and none of those options are not enabled in my
config, but I don't have your problem.

Just thought it might be worth a try after reading about it some :).
