Between Microsoft and my internet provider, I am about to go nuts
I need help and I am not sure who to go to. I can not upload service pak4, nor can I use the CD I bought from Microsoft to update my system, and as I use the internet, the server from my ISP provider hangs and I can not do anything. I also get sysnchost errors that seem to cause the problems when it happens, but is does not all the time
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Email..

I appreciate your help. My problem is that I have done this before, but was more than willing to try it again. The symantec software did not find any worms. When I tried to run the software to protect the pc after the worm tool had run, I get the message that my system is service pack 1 needs to be at service pack 2 to be able to run the software.

This same thing happened to me before. I did purchase the panda software antivirus software and on two occasions it did find the worm and remove it. do you have any other sugesstions? I do have the cd from microsoft for the service pak4 update, but I have tried dozens of times and have not been able to run the software. I have gotten cyclic redundancy checks (what ever they are) or data errors or a message that the program is not a win32 bit program. I swear that I have tried almost everything but I am more than willing to try anything you can come up with
Thanks Steve.

CRC errors indicate bad media or something wrong with the drive or it's
connections to the host bus, like a bad or loose cable. If other CDs
read ok then it's the disc with the problem. Does the CD work in other
systems?

Be aware that removing the worm without first patching the vulnerability
does no good; it will get re-infected almost immediately if on the `net
and not firewalled.

Sounds like the download may be bad try downloading again on another pc that
has already been patched for blaster and other related RPC virus.

I have 2 cd drives and they both work fine with other cd's/software. How do I patch my system for vulnerability when the patch will not work on windows 2000 service pak1, which is what I am on. And I can't update to service pak4 because they downloads hang and the microsoft cd doesn't work. Are ther any other patchs for the vulnerability issue

Return the CD and get another one. It is most likely the CD.

Cheers,

Cliff

You don't have any other choice. It's not possible to connect a Windows 2000
pc to the internet bare-to-the-bones without patching at least for MS03-026
(823980) and MS03-007 (815021) There are too many infected pcs online that
will almost immediately re-infect yours.
