Help needed on Windows 2000 Admin password

My wife and I are networking-or trying to- our two computers. I can
see HER computer which is running XP, but she can NOT see MY computer
which is running Windows 2000.... whenever we go to her computer and
look at My Network and look at the computers found, it shows an icon
with a group of letters and numbers like SEF0D8665F9
When we click on that icon it asks for a user name and password......I
figured out the user name must be that string of numbers above....but
HOW do I find the password??? When I installed 2000 I set it up so no
logon was needed.. It just boots up in to Win 2000.....I never wrote
down the user or password that was assigned to it. Is there any way I
can set MY machine-using windows 2000- to NOT require a user name and
password so she can log on to my machine?? If not is there a way I can
fin dthe password on my win 2000 machine? Or do I hav eto to a total
reinstall of Win 2000 ???

Thanks for helping

Steve

Windows is a secure operating system. Unless your wife can
supply suitable credentials by way of her current logon account/
password, she will be challenged. I suggest you do this:
1. Create an account for your wife on your own PC.
2. Write down the password, and store it in a safe place. It's the key
to her PC!
3. Create the same account on your wife's PC, with the same password.
4. Log on under that account. You can now access the shares on
your own PC without further challenge.
5. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel / Users, then untick the
box that requires users to enter a password.

You'll want to create an account (in Users Accounts) on the WinXP machines
with the username and password that you use to logon to the Windows 2000
machine with. Likewise you'll need to create an account (in Users and
Passwords) on the 2000 machine with the username and password that you use
to logon to the WinXP machines with. Then you'll need to share out the
resource(s) with permissions for those users. Also make sure they're all
part of the same workgroup and on the same subnet. Then you'll no longer be
prompted for the IPC$ password (Inter-process communication)

In a peer level workgroup, when you try to access resources on a Windows
NT/2000/XP/2003 machine, Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 needs to authenticate the
user. If the user account doesn't exist in it's local account database, then
access will be denied.

You'll need to turn off the XP firewall and bind NetBIOS over tcp/ip to the
connection on Windows XP
