I had to come here for help. I will be as breif as possible:
Ive used Yahoo messenger for 3 years-Use the latest version. within 1 week,
I cant log in using 2 of my 3 pcs. my desktop @ home has no problem.
tried uninstalling/reinstalling it numerous times. uninstalled my ZA
firewall and just kept windows firewall. Still no luck.
The only thinkg that I have been successfull in doing is installing an older
version (5.6 or so) of YMessenger. that works fine but is outdated and old
looking with less features.
I dont understand how somthing could stop working from one day to the next
and only on 2 of my 3 pc's. something is corrupted.
Yes. I ahve emailed Yahoo for support. all they have told me to do so far is
to use an older version. what do you suppose my 'WIndows xp home edition
sp2' pc's are lacking.
AVG virus scan=0
remove simple cookies with scanners too.
should I do a system restore? need some ideas, please.

Being able to use the older version without a problem seems to indicate
that there's nothing wrong with XP's settings. Would suspect a firewall or
other security program instead. Perhaps a allow/disallow prompt came up
when you were very busy? Or the prompt was too confusing to know what you
were allowing/disallowing?

You could try a system restore. If successful, you might get a repeat on a
"block/don't block" dialog and can investigate it more closely this time
around.

PS: DEP fully supported on this computer and not the others? If yes and
this is where it's blocked, you can try to allow the program via the DEP
settings in System Properties. If no go, you're back to using the older
version again. An article about DEP here:

Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, and Windows
Server 2003"
