Help Needed __ Registry update failed for key "HPC Filename"

J

john

Having problems adding printer.

ERROR#11-Unable to add printer driver "HP DeskJet"
ERROR#11-Unable to add printer "same"
ERROR#7-Registry update failed for key "HPC Filename"
ERROR#7-Registry update failed for key "Printer Model Name"

I recently added a new hard drive and clean installed of 2000 Pro
with SP4 and numerous critical updates. Which I think are preventing
the update.

Can I edit the registry manually ?

thankyou, john

Try installing the printer while logged on as Administrator, or
else from Safe Mode.

Logged on as Administrator ans Safe Mode.
I still get the same 4 errors plus a fifth,

ERROR#29-Unable to add driver monitor "HP Language Monitor"

SP4 still loads in safe mode.

Can I safely remove SP4 ?

Service Pack 4 (SP4) is part of the OS. Of course it will load with the OS no matter what
mode you boot in.

SP4 is not your problem. Do not remove it.

You're "right" Dave, it was'nt SP4.

I recently added a Sata hard drive and had to update the Bios. The
parallel port was "disabled". "Do not remove SP4" made me go back
to square one and rethink the situation. Only took 5 days. (smile)
