Help!!! My fax Program is not working

I can't figure it out for the life of me. I was sending faxes just fine
yesterday. Today...nothing.

I click on the icon to open Windows Fax Console. Usually, after a few
seconds, all the faxes sent, received, etc. are shown

Now at the very bottom of the Fax Console screen is says "Refreshing" and
nothing is listed.

Then after five minutes or so at the very bottom of the Fax Console screen
it now says "all fax printers are inaccessible"

My printer is working fine. My modem is fine. The phone line is ok beacuse I
am able to connect to the internet.

What does all fax printers are inaccessible mean. I am in real trouble here.

Hi, I don't know the answer to this problem but I am getting exactly the same symptons so am looking for the same answers if you find anything. It used to help if I uninstalled and then reinstalled the fax service but even that does not seem to cure the problem any more - thanks

I've seen two causes for this, security database corruption and Anti
Virus/Spam scanners. The last incident I saw was very much like yours, it
was working one day and just quit. I suggested he try the hotfix for
database corruption referenced in this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884018/EN-US/
You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

He posted back this response:

"...Darndest thing, Hal. Today my fax software is working! I emailed MS for
the hotfix, they replied saying it was free but they needed more details. I
went to the software to double-check the error messages, and everything was
working fine. Only thing different is I'd uninstalled Ad-Aware and AVG
Anti-Spyware yesterday because I was getting low virtual memory alerts (and
I have Spybot on my system anyhow). Can you see a possible connection there?
(The fax problem had been consistent for at least a month up to today.)"

With that in mind, if you're running a virus scanner, see if disabling it
makes any difference.
