Help missing

B

Bengal

I just noticed that my help files seem to be missing. I click on help and
support and nothing happens. I tried the following:
start/run c:\windows\inf I found pchealth.inf and right clicked to install.
I then installed my home XP disk . It started and went about half way and
asked for the service pack 1 disk. Which I of course don't have. Any ideas?

open your registry editor go to the
HLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\app
path\helpctr.exe

The default on the right sould point to
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe, if
default is blank then double click it and add the path,
then click OK

Try again, this should fix your problem.

Hmmmm, strange. I had the same problem and the following worked for me.
Went (in Windows Explorer) to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right clicked
and chose install. Made sure the XP CD was ready in the CD drive - no probs
and I have my help files back. Have a look at the FAQS at

Had you read his message he said he tried this XP asked
for the SP1 CD and he did not have it.
Know you know a way to do this without going a long way
around, 5 minutes vs. 20.

Yeah, read his message and that's why I said it was strange. Why I also
suggested he try the web-site I directed him to as it has a number of
options on there. Shaun
