Help me get rid of SHOPNAV search in IE6.0 PLEASE

S

Sue

When I type something in the address bar to search my
browser switches to something called ShopNav.

If I search for games this address appears in the address
bar:
http://search.shopnav.com/apps/epa/epa?cid=shnv9887&s=games

Then this one appears
http://search2.shopnav.com/apps/epa/epa?
cid=shnv9887&s=games

and a list of websites come up but they are mainly
shopping sites...I DO NOT LIKE THIS!

I have gone to www.shopnav.com and downloaded an uninstall
file 3 times and it dosen't work.

I have emailed (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed),
(e-mail address removed) but get no answers and I don't get my
emails back as undeliverable either.

I don't know how the program got on my computer but I do
suspect that it happened when my 15 year old grandson was
visiting the other day.

HELP...I need to get rid of this program!

Thanks in advance.

Search for a free download called "Highjack This".
Read the directions.
It scans your computer for spyware. You can safely
remove them with this.
Neat program, seems legit.
Good Luck!

Sue if you use hijackthis DON"T remove anything with it without first posting the whole log file (edit, select all, not a copy and paste) into spywareinfo support forums and getting an expert's suggestion. Make sure the person helping you has lots of posts on the board (as indicated by the number under her nickname.)

Most of what hijackthis puts into it's logfile is necessary windows components.

I'd recommend AdAware and spybot first (and be careful with spybot, too,) then hijackthis if they don't fix it.

Here is a copy of a post I made in another board:

I don't know what spyware could have loaded something into your computer, but I have some links for free anti-spyware programs to share with you. After you download each one, go and update it before the first scan and before each scan thereafter.

Ad-aware is the easiest one to use, and least likely to cause damage when you let it fix stuff it finds, like tracking cookies, etc.

Spy-bot search and destroy is recommended for advanced computer users and it can identify changes in your registry caused by spyware, if you elect to let it fix these it could damage your registry by not replacing the original registry file. "use at your own risk" is their motto. If spybot finds something and you don't know whether removing it would be prudent, there are help websites to ask questions before doing anything.

Here are some help sites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051

And this is a good fast online scan page it searches your computer for 100 of the most prevalent virus/hacker attack/spyware stuff currently going around the internet, it is not complete, but good nonetheless, especially if you don't want to download any spyware scanning tools (when you click on the link it automatically starts its scan, and it is done in ten seconds for my computer):

I hope this helps...
