Customizing Search Companion in IE

I believe I had, or have a malware. I ran Ad-Aware,
cwshredder, iegentabs.reg, and restoresearch.reg, but
could not get hot fix Q816093. I have XP. Each time I
try to customize IE, according to the instruction:
In Internet Explorer, click the Search button on the
toolbar.
On the Search bar, click Customize.
Click Use Search Companion in the Customize Search
Settings dialog box, and then click OK.
Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect;
I can't seem to get to "Customize" in the Search bar.
when I select "Use Search Companion", I get the message
to click "customize" and I don't see that option anywhere
on the screen. PLEASE HELP!!!! When I click the search
button on the tool bar, I keep getting a search from what
I believe to be a malware from CoolWebSearch;
http://search2.shopnav.com and I'd really love to get my
search companion back.
