unable to customize Search function

I am using IE 6 with XP. I get Yahoo as search companion
when I select Search on toolbar. The customize directions
in Help do not seem to apply. I can not locate any Change
Preferences after clicking on Search, only the Search
companion comes up on the left side of the screen. There
are no options within the Search Companion page. How can
I change the Search function to use another search engine
such as Goggle as the default?

I think that option is in... yahoo messenger/tools/preferences somewhere.
