When XP is idle for about 15 minutes, the welcome screen appears. Where is
the box to uncheck to stop that from happening?
(Sorry if this shows up twice but my first post has not appeared for 90
minutes)

Right click on the screen » select properties » screen saver page.

Along with checking the Screen Saver tab of Display Properties,
as Jeff suggested, you may have to go into Power Options and on
the Advanced page remove the check mark next to "Prompt for
password when computer resumes from standby".

You may have solved it for me. It's just that the system did not power down,
it just timed out and the login screen appeared. It does that after a few
minutes of not being used. As a matter of fact, the computers are set to
never go on standby. I will apply your solution in the morning at my
customer site. Thanks.
