Help! Installation Problem

I have an HP 750N Pavillion. About a year ago I tried to do a system restore
from the partition. It got stuck halfway through and I had to call HP and
have them help, they couldn't get it to work so they sent me the 7 CDs so
that I could use them to restore. Before the CDs arrived, I got the thing to
work.

The CDs stayed in my drawer, unused and untouched for a year.

On Saturday I decided that the computer was slow enough (from my kids
downloading junk) that it was time to restore again. This time I took the
CDs out and followed the directions.

First I went into my BIOS and set BOOT to CD, then I restarted the CPU and
pressed F10 till the restore window came up. Then followed directions and
started with CD1. At CD3 I got an error message that some file was not found
and was given three options "Abort", "Retry" or "Ignore". I went with Retry,
it went through, finished and then said that the restore was not complete and
to re-insert disc 1. I have re-loaded through about 8 times, always with the
same thing (I tried all three options).

I can't get it to move off of that screen, I have restarted the computer but
it just boots right to that point in the restore menu.

I called HP, the guy didn't seem to understand what I was saying, but at the
end he said the disc might be damaged and that they no longer have any more
to send me. It was new in the package and in perfect condition (it has no
scratches or dirt on it at all). He told me to go buy Windows Vista, which
was not the answer that I wanted to hear.

Is it possible to get to the partition and use those files? Or is there any
other ideas? What can I do now?

Appealing to MS might get the disks for you.

So you think it is a bad CD? I will try that. The number below is out of
service.
