Installation Problems

Hello.
I downloaded the installion programme for WMP11 and was going through the
process. Everything was fine until it started to update then it said System
Restore is off, it should be on or something like that so i cancelled the
update and i went to turn it on. However when i clicked on System Restore it
said "System Restore is unable to protect your computer, please restart your
computer and start again". Now i have restarted numerous times but it still
comes up with the same message.
Could someone give me some idea on what to do?
Thanks.

Hi Danny12,

Go to Start>Run and key in:
services.msc
Click on OK or hit ENTER
In the right-hand pane, scroll down to locate System Restore Service and
double-click on it. If the Service status is Started, click on the Stop
button. Use the drop-down picklist for Startup type to select Disabled.
Click on Apply then OK. Restart.
Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab,
select Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide protected operating
system files. Click on OK. On all of the Hard Disk Drives, open the System
Volume Information folder and delete the contents of the folder.

Go back to Services, use the drop-down picklist for Startup type to select
Automatic, then click on the Start button beneath Service status. Click on
Apply then OK. Now, go back to System Restore and see if you can
successfully Create a Restore Point.

If the above does not resolve the problem, reinstall System Restore. Using
My Computer or Windows Explorer, locate the C:\Windows\Inf folder. Within
that folder, locate the sr.inf file. Right-click on that file and select
Install. You may be prompted to insert the install CD or browse to the
location of the install files, so ensure that you have the CD at hand or
know the location of the i386 folder on your hard drive (if XP came
pre-installed) so that you can browse to it.

The inf folder is a hidden folder, so you would have to set your Folder
Options>View to Show hidden files and folders
