help, installation problem

first, xp pro has previously been on this computer. I am trying to do a
clean install of xp pro sp2. It freezes when it gets to the regional and
language options screen. I have tried a dozen times, always the same
result. ran the hard drive software to check it, its good, no errors found.
Any help appreciated.

amd processor 1026mb memory....

Install xp cd,boot to xp cd,recovery,select 1 For C: Press enter key for
password if prompted,if you recieve text as to "no OS found" or similiar
simply type:DiskPart In DiskPart delete the partition,create one,press ESC
key.Type:EXIT Reboot to xp cd,select install xp.
