IE will no longer open 2nd windows, so if i am at a site (any site??!), and
click
a link that requires that it opens in another window.... (such as this site
for this post?!) it will LAG and Freeze, and if i wait, it will Not open the
window, but the first window comes back with messages in lower left with
yellow triangle with a exclamation point! error messages: error on page:
problems with this web page may keep it from displaying properly, when i
click details: Line 2 Char: 6433 Error: Server execution failed Code: 0 URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?...
sometimes it says javascript instead of error on page
the reason i was able to submit this question is i have aol, and there is no
problem with accessing the pages from there clicking links that open in new
windows cause no problems

i have no popup blocker, have disabled securitys, added site to allowed
list, lowered my security, and still have the problem

i have googled to the ends of the earth :p try'd this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q180176/ rebooted and still it wont go, its
Only an IE prob, my aol browser, my msn browser... they work FINE, i dont
understand, but its a pita to have to be signed into aol to browse, Help!!

Hi piglet :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
information below and see if it helps:

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click a Link

also…...
Zone: Error Message or Nothing Happens When You Click a Web Link
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;236846

From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> Unncheck "Reuse
windows
for launching shortcuts."

If you have a toolbar or program running that blocks pop-up windows, such as
Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, etc., disable them, Yahoo
Companion is known to cause various problems and should be uninstalled.

Hope this helps.

In fact, that may be a cause of your symptom.
Your symptom could be indicative of a caching problem,
either on the client or in an intermediate server.
How does the AOL client cache? (My guess is not with
the same TIF?) Does the AOL server act as an intermediate
cache?

Two changes which might make a difference in your sample scenario
would be either to try pressing Ctrl-F5 before trying to use the Reply
button or to start off with https: as the protocol prefix. (E.g. since the
connection is encrypted it could not be cached by an intermediate server.)

Hmm... Unfortunately, Ctrl-F5 causes the page you are interested in
not to be refreshed. Apparently the application restarts from some
earlier checkpoint. So if the problem is with the cache and it is on the
client side you would have to clear the TIF entirely to see the effect
of an uncached request to initiate a Reply.

Also unfortunately, although the main page does support the https:
protocol (albeit more slowly), the new window is still being launched
with http: protocol; so if that URL is the problem and the problem
is not on the client side, it would still be the problem regardless of
our two changes. If you are at least getting a new window opened
you could press Ctrl-N and overtype the protocol prefix in the cloned
window's Address bar.

FWIW here is the URL which would have resulted from my attempting
to reply to your post using the web interface.

http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/aspx/p...one/newsgroups/settings.xml&sdgloc=en-US&tt=2

And I have just checked; I can modify that by replacing the http: protocol
prefix with https: and it will still work. Further I can press Ctrl-F5 once
the window is opened with that URL in it. There is an erroneous error
message generated when I do that but otherwise it seems to Refresh
as desired.
