Help!! Hard drive

I need help with my second hard drive. Ive been having a problem with my pc. it was continuosly turning off as soon as the welcome stage came up on xp. I figured out that by unplugging one of the cords from my spare hard drive that it was working again. but this now means i cant get to all my things on my spare hard drive. Can someone help me!!! also if i completely remove the spare hard drive then the shutting down occurs again.

Does the BIOS see these 2 drives properly?
Have you checked if the jumpers on the hard discs are set properly?
Set the first disc on master and the 2nd one on slave! The flat cable should connect to the master first and the slave last.
Check the BIOS again.
