When I log onto my account (Windows XP Home), I see the Explorer bar at the
bottom appear and disappear within half a second. I am now on a different
computer asking for help. I have tried to manually start explorer.exe
through the Task Manager but the same thing happened--opened and closed right
away. I now can only open things with the Task Manager and I can't open
internet explorer at all. I fear I may have a virus, but I just scanned the
system not 10 minutes before this started happening. Before this, I received
a notice from Microsoft Anti-Spyware that something was trying to install,
but I opted to remove it. It did remove it, and said I had to restart. When
I did restart, the Explorer errors occurred. I am substantially worried and
would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Can you run a system restore?
It is in %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe.
