Problem With Windows Explorer

Greetings,
Sometime Within The Last Month I Have Noticed That Closing Windows Explorer
Gracefully (By Using The File Close) Closes The Window But, The Process
Remains In Memory (It Has A Different PID). It Can Be Seen In Task Manager
And Process Explorer. It Happens Everytime My Computer, Control Panel Or
Windows Explorer Is Opened. If The Child Process Is Restarted In Task
Manager Or Process Explorer Windows Explorer Opens. If That Process Is
Closed, It Is Taken Out Of Memory And Removed From Task Manager Or Process
Explorer. Many Virus Scans, Highjackthis', And Several Rootkit Scans Have
Been Done, No Malware Is Detected. No Harm Seems To Be Done To Operating
System. sfc /scannow Has Been Run Successfully With No File Replacements.
The Computer Is A HP Pavilion D4650Y With E6600 Core 2 Processers, 4G Memory,
1067 FSB, RAID Controlled, NVidia 7600 GS, Creative Audigy4 Running Fully
Patched Windows Professional SP2. It Never Used To Do This. My Question Is
Why And How Can This Be Fixed. Any Help Is Much Appreciated.
Thank You In Advance.

If the explorer task you mentioned were closed (e.g. with 'end task', or any
other way) Windows would flush the registry buffer, and the screen would stop
responding till you started explorer.exe again with a 'new task'.

What is the command line for the explorer.exe process raising your
suspicions?

Process Explorer provides more information than Task Manager.

Download Process Explorer.

For further information about Process Explorer see here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/ProcessExplorer.mspx

A new addition to Process Explorer is that you can now right click on a
process and search Online for relevant information.

Hope this helps.

Thank You For Responding.
The Command Line Is "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe" /n, /e,C:\" As Launched From
The Quick Start Area. It Is Useful To Note This Happens In Safe Mode Also
But, It Does Not Happen To A User Who Has A Limited Account On This Machine.
It Would Therefore Seem This Is Something That Got Out Of Whack With My User
Account. Just Don't Have A Clue Where It Be. That Command Has Been In Place
For Quite A Long Time On Several Machines That I Have Used And This Is The
Only One That Has A Problem. I Am Aware Of The Usefullness Of Process
Explorer And It's Features ;)

Thank You For Responding.

The Problem Is Not With The Explorer Shell, That Works Fine. Desktop Is
Stable. It Is In Launching Windows Explorer Or My Computer Or Control Panel
That Explorer (As A Child Process) Opens, Is Closed Then Remains As A Task.
