Explorer Crashes

I have had a problem just crop up out of nowhere. In Windows Explorer,
or any program that uses file mgt., if when I have a file high lighted
and try to perform any kind of action, explorer crashes. This includes
using the "file" menu in explorer, right clicking the file, or just
simply trying to delete the file. The only way that I can currently
delete a file is to drag & drop it to the recycle bin. This just
started. I have not previously (knowingly) changed any settings,
installed any programs.
I am using XP sp3. SP3 has been working fine. I upgraded shortly afte
it became available last year. I have run Scan Disk (aka Norton Disk
Doctor), checked for viruses etc. with Norton, Spybot, and Ad-Aware
with no results. There seems to be no strange programs or services
running. Have checked using Task Manager & Norton Process Viewer.
Any help would be appreciated

You could try a system restore to a point before the problem started, and
see how that works out.

Your problem seemed reminiscent of another in a recent thread. Have
look

Problem fixed. Using your links, I discovered a FREE utility to fix it
The utility is ShellExView located at www.nirsoft.net. I traced to a
extension for an older version of PowerDesk (v6). Using this utility
could deactivate the 2 shell extensions involved.
Thank you for the help.

No, don't! Notice his libel list against some of the better posters to
this group and realize that says an awful lot about him and "his"
software. You've no idea what you may actually be downloading from this
character in the way of malware even if the ware he touts appears to
have done something. He also posts under several different nicks and
often with malice. Do not trust.
