Help - Epson CX3200 will not install with XP SP2

I

IanMcKean

I just built a new PC and installed XP SP2.
Various s/w has been installed no problem. But when I tried to install the
Epson CX3200 software I found that the DVD drive would spin, but autorun
did not run. If I double click on the epsetup file or the setup file
(using Explorer) then nothing happens.

If I open the CD and navigate to each utility sub-folder I can double
click on the setup files and most of them run; I have installed epcopy,
epson card monitor, photostarter, epprint, epweb, starter, smartpanel and
twain 5. STM3 not install, nothing happens at all when you double click
the setup file just like the main driver setup file.

I have now called Epson 3 times. They sent a new CD which behaved like the
other one. I downloaded the driver from the website - nothing happened. I
tried disabling all startups with msconfig - still no difference. The
last
Epson support guy hadn't got a clue. Nor have I.

Spec is AMD Athlon 3000 with Asus K8V/SE Delux M/B

Can anybody help?

PS I am aware that Epson are producing a new driver on 1st Dec for this
printer. But I'm not sure this will help. Interestingly as an experiment I
inserted an old Epson Color 850 CD and found that this would not autorun
either and when I double clicked on the setup file nothing happened. So
there must be something strange about Epson drivers with SP2.

Is there a 'bang' oe colored icon on that device in Device Manager
(devmgmt.msc) ?

If so, use the Action menu to uninstall the device, then restart windows,
and try the setup.

I presume by bang coloured you mean the icon that tells you there is a
problem with that particular device. I am not actually near the machine at
the moment but have emailed your question to my son Dan who is. But I am
sure this is not the answer. The DVD device has been used to install all
the other software on the machine and it still works; as I mentioned in my
post, most of the utilities on the Epson CD have installed. And as I also
mentioned, I tried to install the downloaded driver from my hard disk,
(after downloading it from Epson's website) and it did not run. So I am
sure Dan will confirm that the DVD device is fine (if he can interrupt
using the self same DVD drive to play GTA for a moment).

I want Epson to tell me if they are using a different install builder
package or process to build their main install programs (for both the
CX3200 (and the Color 850) and the STM3 utility from the install builder
package(s) they have used for epcopy, epson card monitor, photostarter,
epprint, epweb, starter, smartpanel and twain 5.
