Help- DVD writer sees DVDs but not CDs

D

DrSardonica

My Pioneer DVD-RW 106D shows, burns and plays all kinds of DVDs but some
where or another it stopped recognizing CDs.

When I put one it, using a variety of programs or Explorer, it says "no
Disc".

It worked ok for a while.

Things I tried...uninstalling Nero, and the device, rebooting, reinstalling.

Any Ideas?

I have one possibility for you
Did you install Nero's InCD? If you did get rid of it. It's crap and caused
basically the same problem on my PC.

Failing that, the laser that writes to CD may have failed (DVD and CD use
different lasers)

Have you looked at the Properties of the drive (Right
click on its icon) and seen if the 'enable CD recording'
box on the Recording TAB is checked?

try to use a cd/dvd cleaner on your dvd rom drive. it's possible that the
lenses may have been dirty.
