DVD not showing.working correctly

Recently tried using my DVD Rewriter on PC (XP machine) for first time
in over two month (its an LG 4081B).

It will no longer read dvds or cds let alone write to blank dvds or
cds.

I've tried uninstalling DVD. I've tried uninstalling all Nero and
reinstalling.

No joy. The DVD shows in device manager but whenever i load a disc in
drive it asks me to insert media.

The DVD Will work in another machine hence there is soemthing is wrong
with the setup on main PC.

Can anyone tell me how to delete all drivers and hardware settings
related to DVD/CD so that XP may correctly reinstall or alternatively
can someone tell me what else i can do?

I know this may sound simplistic, but, often simple things are
overlooked. Have you tried cleaning your DVD drive with a DVD drive
cleaning disk?

The reason i have not tried that is because the unit will work in another
PC.

i had a simular problem a few weeks ago. i right clicked on my computer
choose manage, selected device manager and located the cd drive. highlight
it ( left click one time) and on the tool bar their is an icon that looks
like a pc with an x through it. this will uninstall the device. reboot the
machine and windows will reinstall it. if this doesnt work, go back in
computer management and this time select disk management. find the cd drive
and change the drive letter. it will give you a warning message, click yes.
you can now change your drive letter back if you would like and your drive
should work.

peace :)
