Help - Cannot Uninstall Defender

Hi,

My copy has expired, so I'm trying to uninstall it in order to allow me to
install the latest copy. Only trouble is, when I go into Add/Remove Programs
and select Windows Defender, the uninstall just seems to hang. When I check
the processes, msiexec is using 50% of CPU (on a Dual Core system) - doesn't
matter how long I wait, it just hangs.

I've tried to use Windows Installer Clean Up, but it doesn't list Windows
Defender. I notice I've also got Windows Install 3.1 (KB893803) installed
too.

Can anyone please help?
Is there an alternative method to uninstall? Manual, script, ???
Any other ideas for what I could try?

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, this command line instructions
recommended in your kind post uses msiexec, which is the bit that hangs for
me. If I run the script, it still hangs.

Is there any tools or utilities that can remove software without using
msiexec?
Or maybe something that can "debug" or "check" my environment to figure out
what's wrong.

I've seen other posts on the internet related to this problem, but nobody so
far has even seen a solution.

So it seems if msiexec can't do it, it can't be done??? There must be
something I can try?

Thank you

Brian

Actually, just thinking ... this may not be just a defender problem either -
it actually may be a msiexec problem ....
