Help cannot boot into windows or from a CD

Here is the problem:

My laptop will not boot into Windows XP.
When I try booting from a Windows XP CD- after I get the
message "press any key to boot from CD" and
press any key, the CD drive runs for about 5 seconds then
stops and all I get is a blank screen. I know the CD is good.
I can use it one another computer.

I have heard that resetting CMOS can fix this problem. I took
apart my laptop but I can not find the battery.

I also think it might be the CD drive. But before I spend money
on the drive I want to see if resetting the CMOS helps.

NO FLOPPY DRIVE!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Please go back to your original thread. You have a lot of answers there,
including one I just made a few minutes ago. There is no reason to post
the same question again in a separate thread. You will not get different
answers and you will only fragment the thread and make more work for
everyone.
