Hi All

I have a emachine 180
IM845GL Motherboard
1.8 Ghz Intel Celeron Processor
250GB HDD
640 MB Memory
3D AGP Extreme graphics

I know a new PC is the answer or is it...help me upgrade any of the above just so i can save face...Oh yeh he has a cool keyboard and small surround speakers... i think he said his processor is a Athlon 3000 or somethin !!!

unfortunately as mucks would say "your motherbard is crap" and its maxed out, if you want to upgrade you'll need pretty much a new system

ok if you keep all of the peripherals (mouse, keyboard, monitor etc) and the two drives you can get a pretty good system

Asus A8N-SLI
Athlon64 3200
Leadtek 6600GT
1GB of Geil value RAM
Antec Sonata II case with 450W PSU

thats about £470 its about £435 if you get 512MB of RAM, you will also want a copy of XP home which is about £60 all from www.overclockers.co.uk

this will be able to play battlefield 2 fine on the default settings

Lets not forget if we're talking a 5000rpm ata drive here - which we probably are - sticking an x800 and a 3ghz CPU next to it might be a big waste of cash...

That sounds very nice.

That's especially good because the PCI-express motherboard will let you add another 6600 to that to have two in SLI mode, or upgrade to a 7800 - or whatever comes out after that. The socket 939 should be in use for a while, so you could get a 4200+ processor when they get cheap as well.

With regards to the 7k hdd, you might want to get a S-ATA drive, because they are faster (even at the same RPM).

The Wester Digital Rapter 10,000rpm drives are expensive, but if you got a 40/80gb one purely for the operating system and system intensive applications like gaming, you would see a big difference and really get your moneys worth out of the other components. You could then keep your older slower drive, which will probably be bigger, for storing Pictures/movies/documents and so on that aren't affected by access times.
