How fast of a processor can I upgrade to? Please help!!

Hello. I know someone can help me here.... I have a Emachine T1840
with a celeron 1.8 processor.
I want to change to a faster processor. I upgraded an older emachine
from a 366 to a 533 processor. It was easy, all I had to do is remove
the 366 and plug in the 533 processor. I want to install the fastest
processor I can in the T1840 without harming anything. Can anyone tell
me what the fastest processor will work in my Emachine? Am I limited
to Celeron only? Do I have to change any settings in the Bios? Can
anyone guide me please?
The motherboard is a Tri gem International: Imperial GL
Specifications of eMachines T1840
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Intel® Celeron® Processor 1.80 GHz (w/128KB L2 cache & 400MHz FSB)
Intel 845GL Chipset

thanks, tom

Ohh.. that's unfortunate. the upside to having a current Celeron in
that machine though is that ANYTHING will be an upgrade. Even an old
P4 1.3GHz should be faster than that chip.

Tri gem International?! Who in the hell are they?! Talk about a
no-name brand company! They must be an ECS/PCChips rebadged special.

The 845GL chipset only supports 400MT/s bus speed processors, so
you're probably stuck with that. However, your processor is a Celeron
which is based off the "Northwood" core, so it should be able to
handle that. The question then become one of how much juice the
voltage regulators can supply. That, unfortunately, is not all that
possible to figure out. However there's a strong probability that it
will be able to handle a 2.4GHz P4 (400MT/s bus speed only).

eMachines does have a number listed on their website that you can
call, though I wouldn't hold my breath for them to help you (the low
up-front cost doesn't buy you much of anything in terms of support
when you get eMachines stuff).
