helloo there!
till two months ago i hade no concern with backing up my data since i got
familiar with PC alot of years ago. but when i got my very precious data lost
two months ago it was very painful. once i remember i crated backup of some
of my files and put them in another drive on my pc. but after formatting my
other drives including c: and reinstalling windows i opened that file which
had backup of my files but it did say that there is no file in it. i don't
know what really happened. i am not sure how backup really works and what it
really does. but now i have few question i hope somebody would give some time
to them.
i really want to know when we create backup of our data what happens does it
create the copy of original data or it creates the sketch or shadow of
original data. and would the backup of original file would take the same
amount of space?
and secondly i really want to know is there any way that i can create
something like backup or copy of my whole Windows with everything installed
on it including my all games and software's and to put them on DVD or
anywhere else. and after formatting my all drives i just run one setup which
install every thing on my pc which i was running before formatting the
drives. thankx.

a backup file will pack
all the data from the partition
into a single large file.

however, if one tiny piece of
data is flawed, then the whole
backup file is corrupted.

that is why after creating a
backup file, the file integrity
should be "verified" afterwards.
the backup program provides
this option.

however, i prefer disk images
instead. with a freeware called
"drive image xml", the data from
a partition will be segmented into
several images and each image can
fit on a cd or several images can
fit on a dvd.

in addition to the imaging program
above, you can also add
another tool to the method above
called "barts pe" and then add a
"pluggin" for the drive image xml.

the above is a method i use and
recommend. however, there are
many other ways / configurations
of protecting the data and restoring
it as well.

the best thing to do is try to
keep the personal data off the
the operating system partition
the data is safer on a different
partition or on a secondary harddrive.

also, a copy of the data on cd
would be helpful as well.

some people do not know
this but it is not always
necessary to reinstall windows.

there are many occassions that
repairing windows is all that is
needed to make the pc functional
again.

to your data, no one can
answer this for you. there are
too many variables involved.
