Hearing instrument in headphhones

I'm trying to get cakewalk guitar tracks pro working on my new laptop. I can
record and playback thru headphones, but I can't hear whatever instrument I
have plugged into the mic input in headphones as I am recording, Any
suggestions? Thanks

Full duplex on your soundcard ?
