Headphones - No Sound

I plug in headphone (either stand alone or combo) and the laptop speaker
sound stops, but I still do not get sound through the headphones...Any
suggestions?

Try with different headphones.

Check your headphones in another source for proper function, if successful,
look into the volume controls for your machine to make sure the headphone
jack is not 'muted.'
