HD DVD and Vista Media Center

G

Guest

I am thinking about building a media center PC and use the cheap Microsoft
HD DVD drive on it. It would really be nice to use Vista's media center
instead of fiddling with an external program.

Is it possible to playback HD DVD with media center?

Thanks,
Wade

I have that drive and I have not been able to get MC to play an HD-DVD disc.
Third party apps will however, only if you are HDCP compliant or use analog
connections.

When did Microsoft start making HD DVD hardware?

Dear Wade,

Thanks for posting here.

From the problem description of the post you submitted, my understanding
is: you wonder if HD DVD can be playbacked with Media Center and related
information. If I have misunderstood your problem, please let me know.

Media Center Edition is not supported in partner newsgroup. In order to
effectively troubleshoot MCE issues we would need a wide range of hardware
for video feeds and different media feeds. It is recommended that you
contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone so that
a dedicated Support Professional can assist you in resolving the issue in a
more efficient manner. Please be advised that contacting phone support will
be a charged call.

To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a
look at the web site listed below.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS

If you are outside the US please see: http://support.microsoft.com for
regional support phone numbers.

If you have any concerns regarding the supportability of MCE in Partner
Newsgroups, please take a moment to share this with the partner managed
newsgroup lead team in the Partner Feedback newsgroup:

For NNTP readers: Microsoft.private.directaccess.partnerfeedback
For web interface: Partner Feedback

We will ensure your thoughts and requests are routed to the appropriate
group.

It is not a problem, per se, and certainly not an issue I'm willing to spend
any amount of money resolving. The issue is getting HD DVD's to play just
like DVD's in Vista Ultimate and the media center with it. Not XP MCE,
Vista. I figure since Microsoft supports HD DVD and since the 360 HD DVD
plugs in just fine in Vista that Microsoft would at least provide playback
support for HD DVD. If not, maybe they should get the programmers busy or,
at the very least, allow a 3rd party implementation to work with the Vista
media center.

Right now, I'd settle for playback only support and getting the awesome HD
DVD interactive features later.

Dear Wade,

Many thanks for your clarification on this issue again!

As for the requests regarding Windows Vista Media Center, it is not
supported in newsgroup currently. Under the current situation, you can
submit the requests to public newsgroups for peer experiences and
recommendations:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q171164&SD=MSKB&
OLEXP: How to Configure Outlook Express for Internet News (171164)

If you have any concerns on Windows Vista Media Center, you can provide
your feedback directly to the product groups:

WS=Wish&url=http%3a%2f%2fwww.microsoft.com%2fireland%2fcontact%2fa

Hope your questions can be addressed as soon as possible.
