Is there a way to play a HD DVD on Vista. I purchased a movie without
realizing that it was in this format (which I know nothing about) and not
only does Media Center not seem to be able to play it but Explorer doesn't
seem to recognize that there is a disk in the DVD player. Sorry for my
ignorance on this subject but can anyone help?

Regards

Hi Chris,

You need a special HD DVD drive to play that type of DVD.

HD-DVD's usually come in a red-edged case. Blu-Ray come in blue-edged
cases.

To read HD-DVD's, you need an HD-DVD drive. The same goes for Blu-Ray. A
standard DVD drive will not recognize either HD format.

Unless you want to buy a new drive (standalone or computer, both are
$$$$$) and have a powerful enough computer, try and return it. Even
though it is open, hopefully the stores will allow for that. Otherwise,
you have learned a lesson.

Windows Vista has native support for HD DVD disk, as long as you have the
appropriate optical drive installed in your computer.

First my thanks to all who replied.

If I purchase one of these HD DVD's will I also need a special monitor?
Sorry but I'm totally ignorant on this subject.

What ever pixel resolution that you monitor has is what you will get.

Are there any HD DVD computer drives?

All I have seen is Blu Ray player/recorders from Sony and Pioneer.

I Bleed Blue and Gold
GO BEARS!

Look up the LG GGC-H20LI , for example. Not that that's what I got myself
for Xmas... oh wait, it is. =)

.... mainly to play some DVD-9s that didn't work well on my previous drive,
really, but the HD/BR "bonus" was worth it. No "write" capabilities and
still early generation, but -- pretty much spot on for *my* needs. =)
