Upgrading from XP Media Center to Vista Business?

I know that Vista Business does not include Media Center. However, I would be
upgrading from XP Media Center; would I still be able to use XP's Media
Center after the upgrade? Even if I do not, would I still have the ability
to, say, watch a DVD movie using my system's DVD drive?

No, you wouldn't be able to use XP's Media Center after the upgrade. And,
yes, you can watch a DVD movie with Vista Business Edition (via Media Player
or any other Vista-compatibile DVD player).

Probably better to consider an upgrade to Vista Ultimate which has
everything the home and business versions have.

I have vista business and watch DVD's all the time. granted, not in Windows
Media Player (bloated - never use it)
GUM player plays them just fine (freeware), as well as Power (came with my
PC)

Oops...bad assumption on my part. Thanks for setting me straight and I
apologize for the incorrect post.

I would consider it if it wasn't for the cost. The upgrade version of Vista
Ultimate is $300 CDN, Vista Business is $250, and Vista Home Premium is $170.

However, I'm a university student so money is very tight. I have an option
to by Vista through my university through a special licensing program;
however, not all versions of Vista are available. As it is, I would have to
choose either Basic or Business; Home Premium is not available through the
program.

As such, I'm forced to decide whether the cost benefits (Vista Business
license is just over 1/2 the retail price of Home Premium) outweigh the lack
of multimedia capabilities, especially if I do a lot of multimedia stuff.

If you install a 3rd party DVD player, yes.
