having problems capturing video with camcorder

I have this problem with three different editing packages, including the
software that came with the camera and WMMv2.1. I am using a JVC GR-D33U and
Belkin firewire cable. I cannot capture video on playback mode, all I get is
a black screen but the timecode and playback controls still work. When the
camcorder is in record mode, capturing works fine. If anyone can help that
would be great.

Hi Andrew,
Please excuse me if I'm simply stating the obvious - but I've seen people
of all levels make this mistake: Did you rewind the tape in the camera?
