Have to shutdown twice to shutdown

Hi All,

I have to click shutdown (for either restart or turn
off), TWICE to get the computer to shutdown. Anyone had
the same problem, know how to fix it? Can't find any
thing on MS knowledge base.

Tried fresh install from my XP Professional CD. tested
with no applications installed (just vanilla windows),
and still had same problem.

Running XP Pro with SP1 on a P4/1.4ghz Intel System
nVidia GPU, 100mbit Realtek NIC, SB Audigy sound. Did
have the CPU overclocked to 1.55ghz, but reset everything
back to factory defaults (including all BIOS settings),
and still had same problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Most likely, you have a program that won't shutdown on the 1st shutdown
command. Do you ever get a small dialog box saying that Windows is trying
to shutdown a particular application after you issue the shutdown command?

Hi Charles,

No,

No error dialogs, hangling applications; nothing. It
happened when I had nothing but windows installed too.

Don't know then, that's the only idea I had because it happened to me a
couple of times.
