I recently built a system that has a most curious issue. When told to Restart
the computer will freeze at the shutdown screen, but when it is told to
Shutdown it does so without a problem. It happened during the XP install as
well. It seems to be unrelated to a similar problem other users reported in
terms of the automatic Restart that follows an automatic update. The fix in
that thread was to change one of the Security preferences, but the same fix
in my system hasn't solved the problem. I suspect it is a BIOS issue but I
wanted to check here before I flashed. The aforementioned thread had a poster
who had the same motherboard as I do, Intel's D945GCCR, which leads me to
favor the BIOS explanation. Other system components: Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz
(e4700), 1GB PC2-4200 RAM (don't recall the manufacturer, but it's not
faulty).
