Have to put HTTP:// in front of URL for the browser to find site

Dan Smith

I recently had the CWS Searchpage.html Trojan infect my
browser. I removed it with Spy Sweeper, but now I have to
type in http:// in front of every URL on the search line
in order for the browser to locate the site. Before all I
had to do was put in the FQDN and it located it without a
problem. What can I do to get IE6 back the way it was?

Suggest you get this removal tool. CWS is very nasty.

Check (correct) the following registry entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix
default="http://"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
