Hauppauge WinTV USB2

D

DCR

Vista RC2 (X86)

Original installation of RC2 detected WinTV USB2 and Windows Update
installed an update.
Media Center played TV and FM correctly (although audio was somewhat muted)
Remote worked.

Downloaded and installed all the lastest updates from Hauppauge's site.
Rebooted and WinTV2000, WinTV32, and Radio applications worked (again
somewhat muted audio).
Ran Media Center again -- all was good!

Ran WinTV2000 -- no video (transparent window), no sound, IR and buttons
changed channels.
Ran WinTV32 -- no video (white window), no sound, no IR functionality.

WHAT HAPPENED???

Any way to fix this?

P.S. Hauppauge tech support says they are waiting for 64-bit drivers from
the manufacturer of the video chip for Vista X64 drivers. (They expect the
drivers soon.)

Huh...last times I spoke to them (3 months ago) they said they had no
intention of supporting hauppauge usb/tv x64.

Last week they said "soon".

I had problems under RC2 with the same device and returned to RC1 where it
seems to work fine. I am not using WinTV2000 or WinTV32 though, just Media
Center. In my case both audio and video seemed to repeatedly
flicker\stutter under RC2.

Make sure you installed the Hauppauge software IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:

(1) install the driver
(2) install the middleware
(3) install the wintv2000 software
(4) install the video decoder

Under Windows XP MCE, the Hauppauge WinTV USB2 is not a supported device
for Media Center (you can use it on the XP desktop with Hauppauge's
software, but not in Media Center). But their other USB product, WinTV
PVR, is a supported device. WinTV USB2 does not have hardware MPEG
encoding of it's video output. WinTV PVR does. In Windows XP MCE, this
is a requirement. May not be the case for Vista, but there will still
be a big performance hit.

I don't understand what you are saying.
I have a WinTV PVR USB2 Media Center Kit installed on my computer. I had no
problems watching/recording TV from Windows MCE or using the Hauppauge
software.
I purchased the external tuner last spring and installed on XP Pro MCE
operating system. Other than the software being very cranky to install, once
installed correctly it worked as it should. I have been testing RC2 since
its' release and, again...other than the hissy-fits with the Hauppauge
software installation itself...all works perfectly.

Right, the "WinTV PVR" is MCE compliant. But hauppauge makes another
external USB tuner, the "WinTV USB2" (that is the exact name of the
product, not a description) which is NOT compliant with MCE. Note that
this product does not have the letters "PVR" in it's name. While the
WinTV PVR does not actually have "USB2" in it's product name, but of
course it is a USB 2.0 device and USB 2 appears ... but as a
description, not as part of the name.

I can use the WinTV PVR USB2 on both Win XP desktop with WinTV2000 and also under (both TV and FM)
Win XP Media Center.

Yes, that's correct; the "PVR" version works under both XP (using the
Hauppague software) and MCE (using the Hauppauge software on the Windows
desktop and Media Center when it's running). It's the NON-PVR version
(WinTV USB2 ... with no "PVR" in the name) that does not work IN MEDIA
CENTER under MCE, although you can still use it with the Hauppauge
software in the Windows desktop.

I'm not sure what Vista Premium does or does not support.
