Harmful duplication of devices listed?

In a PC I built myself, running Windows2000, in the Add/Remove Hardware
wizard, I have a listing for three identical devices: VIA USB Universal
Host Controller. Is this a potentially harmful duplication of devices,
or is it a necessary duplication of devices? Should I delete all but one
of these "devices"?

TIA.

Your mobo probably does have 3 seperate USB controllers (even if you have
not conected them all up) .
So your OS is only seeing what is there & as such you shouldn't delete them
(they would only reappear next boot anyway).

I agree.

I have 2 USB controllers on my board, and thus 2 listings for "USB Universal
Host Controller" in my Hardware Manager ... despite the fact that I've never
gotten the onboard header to work properly when connected to my pair of
extension ports. (Yes, I have checked the wiring ... had it all apart and
back together again ... no dice)

And how many USB ports does the motherboard have? Six? It's two per
host controller ...

!MY! machine lists about seven hosts - three on the motherboard, and
four (!!) on the USB 2.0 adapter card I have installed.
