hardware problems???

i'm having a problem, windows keeps skipping and i donn't know why, it happens on everything, internet, playing cd's,dvd's, word, i think it may be a loose connection on something in the actual computer, is there anyway of telling
i have a hi-grade laptop, with windows xp, home edition! please help

Can you please describe what you mean by 'skipping'?

well with cd's etc, its like the cd's scratched, but it does the same in media player, and with word etc it just pauses for a second or two, then carries on,gets worse when its hot
